This machine tests the sealing of the metal casing by detecting the helium traces leaking from the battery.

This machine fully automates the sealing test of the battery.Such a test is performed first once the top lid has been welded to the battery lithium casing, and a second time once the sealing pin has been welded after the electrolyte filling. The effectiveness of the sealing is tested by injecting helium into the battery and by detecting how much helium leaks from the battery in a certain amount of time.

To complete this test the battery has to be inserted in a vacuum chamber where the leaked helium is detected with a mass spectrometer. The data recorded during the test is automatically uploaded to the MES system.

Based on this data the defected batteries are removed from the production line. The Helium injection can be both performed by this testing unit or can be integrated in the electrolyte filling unit.
